Joyce Lee Lively Haynes – a devoted mother, grandmother, great and great great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend – passed away peacefully May 2, 2026, at the age of 93 years and 9 months.

Born Aug. 19, 1932, Joyce was a woman defined by her deep compassion and a tireless spirit of service. Whether through her work, her family, or her church, she was always ready to offer a helping hand or a kind word. Her dedication to others was a cornerstone of her life and a testament to her faith.

Born to the late Clarence and Elsie Pilkenton Lively, Joyce grew into a woman of grace and resilience. She was an active member of Fairlawn Baptist Church, where she made history as the congregation’s first female deacon. Her faith was not just a title, but a practice she lived out every day through her kindness and community involvement.

In her quieter moments, Joyce found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She could often be found lost in the pages of a good book or enjoying a movie on Lifetime or Hallmark Networks. Her favorite activity was spending time with her family.

Joyce was affectionately called “Red,” by her husband, a nickname that captured her spirited personality.

The heart of Joyce’s story was her 72-year marriage to her beloved late husband, Wayne Eugene Haynes. Their union was a beautiful example of lifelong devotion, and she took immense pride in the family they built together.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister; Edna Lewis, her brother; Earnest Lively, her son; Stephen Wayne Haynes, her grandson; Christopher Wayne Broyles, her daughter in law; Jackie Dehart Haynes, and her son in law; William “Bill” Turpin.

She is survived by her loving children: Richard (Rick) Haynes of Belspring, Va.; Joyce Haynes Turpin of Fairlawn, Va.; and Elizabeth “Beth” Haynes Richardson (Kyle) of Roanoke, Va.; and a sister, Mary Jane Lively Bentley of Payne Gap, Ky. She also leaves behind a legacy of 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 10 great -great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her warmth and wisdom.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, June 5, 2026, at Mullins Funeral Home in Radford at 4 p.m. Visitation with the family will begin at 3 p.m.

The Haynes family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
