Jon Amos Altizer, 87, of Riner, passed away peacefully surrounded by family June 26, 2026 at the same house he was born in. He was born June 3, 1939 to the late Marvin Gray and Thelma Thompson Altizer.

Jon was a graduate of Auburn High School Class of 1957. He attended Auburn United Methodist Church his entire life. Jon was the owner of WellTop Dairy Farm. He was married to Katie Morgan Altizer for 63 years. Jon and Katie decided to turn the farm into what is now known as Auburn Hill Golf Course. He served 59 years in the Riner Volunteer Fire Department. After retirement, he worked as a courier for Carilion.

Jon is survived by his wife Katie; brothers Michael and W. Terry Altizer; sister Mary Jo Horton; son Jay S. Altizer and wife Pamela; daughter Jennifer A. Canevari and husband Robert; grandchildren Kerri Terry and husband Will, Melina Canevari and husband Toby Hagan and Greg Canevari and wife Andrea; great grandchildren Kate, Karlie, Graham and Lillie Terry; Asher, Olivia, and Oakley Hagan; and Abigail, Isabella and Rosalia Canevari; special nephew, David Morgan and Shelley; and many other nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Danielle Ogle and staff at Floyd Carilion Clinic. Also, thanks to ACG Hospice for their loving care during our family’s difficult time.

The family received friends Wednesday, July 1 at Auburn United Methodist Church. A memorial service followed at the church with Rev. Knox Wimberly officiating.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Auburn United Methodist Church in Jon’s name at PO Box 74, Riner, VA 24149.
