John Francis “Jack” Sharlow

John Francis “Jack” Sharlow, 79, of Dublin, Va., formerly from Batavia, N.Y., passed peacefully into eternity on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, while at home surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Alfred Sharlow and Esther Irene (Bowen) Sharlow; a son-in-law, Neil Randall Waters; and a precious great-granddaughter, Charlee Mayne Sharlow.

Jack is survived by his three children, Diane Sharlow Waters, John Francis Sharlow, Jr., (Tammy), and Kari Sharlow Taylor (Brad). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren:  Joshua Sharlow (Laura), Matthieu Sharlow (Chelsea), Ryan Sharlow (Victoria), Cassandra Sharlow, Casey Durrett, Nicholas Durrett, Brandon Taylor (Miranda), Kaylee Rose (Matthew), Cloe Taylor, and Bryan Taylor. Ten great-grandchildren were also blessed to call him “Grandpa”: Hunter, Audra-Leigh and Kennedy Sharlow, Dakotah Sharlow, Micah, Braxton and Addilyn Sharlow, Elizabeth Barker; and Brysen and Brooks Taylor.

Jack is also survived by his five siblings: Joanne “Joni” Barnes, James “Jim” Sharlow (Gayle), George Sharlow (Paula), David Sharlow, and Donald Sharlow.  

A former Veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves, Jack retired as Executive Catering Director from Radford University. He continued his passion for mentoring and consulting at Mountain Lake, teaching etiquette at Ferrum College and faithfully volunteering for his local election precinct. He also enjoyed camping, traveling, and attending weekly supper club with close friends.

The family will receive friends on Sat., July 31, 2021, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg.  A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel.
