Gov. Abigail Spanberger ordered the U.S. and Commonwealth of Virginia flags to be flown at half-staff on all state and local buildings until Sept. 1 to honor the passing of Dolly Parton.
The governor stated that “We honor Dolly not only for her extraordinary contribution to music, but also her commitment to children through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. She has helped foster a lifelong love for reading among the young people of the country.”
But Dolly was more than a voice of compassion. It is so unusual that one person has the respect of everyone. No one has had anything but good things to say about Dolly. Today, that is rare; individuals attack and bring down other people all the time. Rarely is a person thought well of by everyone. Dolly Parton was that kind of a person.
Maybe it is time for all of us to think like Dolly, about what’s good in life and work to make things better in our lives and others. It’s not that hard and it makes everyone feel better.
One of Dolly’s final comments was:
“Oh, I do wish you joy
And I wish you happiness
But above all,
I wish you Love.”
Who can say it any better with more meaning?
