The Intellectual Disabilities Agency of the New River Valley (IDANRV) has announced the addition of three new board members to the Board of Directors. They are Austin Acord, Kevin Gravely, Jr. and Kate Renz. Since 1965 IDANRV has provided recreational, educational, and social programs for people with intellectual disabilities in the New River Valley.
IDANRV Board president Earl Brown remarked on the variety of programs being offered by the agency, many of them started last year. These include bingo, dances, social get-togethers, craft and music classes, cooking class, karaoke and movie events. Most of these programs are held at the IDANRV site, which was recently remodeled by volunteers. Close cooperation with Christiansburg Recreation Department includes programming at their sites, including the Huckleberry Splash Park as well as their other facilities.
IDANRV does not get financial support from national or state sources and relies solely on community support, grants, and donations. Two major fundraising events will be taking place during spring and summer to support all of our programs. We will be hosting a wine and beer tasting/silent auction at the Blacksburg Country Club Activity Center on April 17 featuring donations from local businesses and individuals. On Aug. 28 we will offer our annual Golf Tournament at Auburn Hills Golf Club in Riner. We welcome additional support from the community in the form of Tee sponsors for the Tournament as well as items for the silent auction. Contact us at info@idanrv.org or call/text 540-381-0310.
