Lucy “Toodle” Hurst, 94, of Roanoke, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 at Richfield Retirement Center. She was born in Craig County, VA on May 17, 1923 to the late Ward Lawrence and Vergia Elizabeth Paxton Bryant. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, William Beverly Hurst; two brothers Walter “Pete” Bryant and Grant “Shorty” Estes Bryant and his wife, Audrey Sampson Bryant.
Lucy was a member of Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, the Craig County Historical Society, the William Preston Chapter of the D.A.R., an the women of the Moose.
She graduated from the Lewis Gale School of Nursing and served in the Cadet Nursing Care during World War II. She is survived by her nephew, Henry and Debora Bryant, Elliston, three nieces Kathy Hallal and husband, Jerry, Virginia Beach, Patricia Nelson and husband, Ralph, Chesapeake, VA, Karen Duggen and husband, Douglas, Virginia Beach; seven great nephews, Bryan, Christopher, and Eric Hallal, James Nelson, Jonathan, Matthew, and Timothy Duggen; a great niece, Melissa Nelson Mondia.
Graveside services will be held Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Crawford Memorial Cemetery, New Castle, VA with Rev. Herb Williams officiating.
