RADFORD – Radford High School has a new trailer for its marching band and athletic programs, thanks to a donation from Radford businessman Keith Weltens and the Radford Partners for Excellence Foundation.

“The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Spring Golf Tournament delivered a standout moment as Keith Welton, owner of Ameriprise Financial in Radford, recorded a hole-in-one on Hole 7 at Auburn Hills Golf Club,” the Montgomery County Chamber announced. “Welton’s impressive shot earned him a $5,000 prize, but in a move that drew just as much attention as the shot itself, he announced he will be donating the full amount to the Radford Partners for Excellence Foundation.”

The Radford Partners for Excellence Foundation has been raising funds for the new trailer, and Welten’s donation brought the fundraising over the finish line.

Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Steve Baffuto “praised both the achievement and the generosity behind it,” the Chamber announced.

“Making a hole-in-one is impressive,” said Baffuto. “Giving it back to the community is what makes it unforgettable. Keith’s leadership and generosity are exactly what makes the New River Valley such a strong place to live and do business.”

The annual tournament brought together 19 four-person teams from across the New River Valley, “creating a competitive and energetic day of networking and friendly competition among local businesses,” the Chamber said.

According to its website, the Partners for Excellence Foundation is a “non-profit, fundraising engine for the Radford City Public Schools focused on promoting academics, arts, and athletics within the school division by filling the critical financial gaps left by the continuing reduction in state and federal resources available to public schools.”
