Helen Sutherland Hines, 91, of Richmond, Virginia passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018. She is survived by her husband, Elbert Richard Hines, son, Rich Hines (Nancy), grandson, David Alexander Hines, all of Richmond, brother, Harold Sutherland (Lois) of Radford; brother, Frank Sutherland (Martha, deceased of Lynchburg; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Helen was born in Radford on Oct. 11, 1926, the fifth child of Harry and Callie Sutherland. She graduated from Radford High School, attended Radford College and graduated from St. Luke’s Nursing School, and passed her state bord to become a registered nurse the same year. She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital and Dr. Fleming Gill’s office until her son was born in 1955.
She loved God’s creation, especially birds and flowers. Helen was a founding member of Westgate Garden Club and received many awards for her flowers and arrangements.
The family received friends at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home 11020, W. Broad Street in Richmond on July 28, 2018. Visitation was held before the service and interment followed in Westhampton Memorial Park
