The Radford University volleyball team finds itself in the national spotlight, being ranked number 25 this week.
For the first time in school history the Radford volleyball team is ranked, coming in at No. 25 in the VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll that was released on Tuesday.
“I’m very proud of the work we have done up to this point in the season,” Marci Jenkins said. “However, we start a brand new season tonight which we must stay ultra-focused on one match at a time.”
Radford (10-1) only had one hiccup in the non-conference schedule, but have several quality wins, including three over Power Five teams. The season began with a three-match win at the Lehigh Fall Classic. The Highlanders only lost one set during opening weekend and it came against Marist.
The Highlanders packed their bags and headed to Tucson, Ariz., for the Wildcat Classic. The Highlanders won a five-set match over Grand Canyon to open the tournament and ended the trip out west with a huge comeback victory over Pac-12 opponent Arizona.
Radford then traveled to Columbia, S.C., to compete in the Carolina Classic. The Highlanders came away with two more wins including another five set win over host South Carolina. In the final weekend of non-conference play Radford took down New River Valley foe, Virginia Tech, in three sets. It was the first win over the Hokies since 2001.
The Highlanders are off to their best start in 30 years and look to continue the success in conference play. Radford opens conference play on Tuesday at Winthrop at 7 p.m.
