Halloween brings smiles in Radford despite pandemic

Central United Methodist Church’s pumpkin decorating contest boasted some impressive entries,including this camping jack-o-lantern.
Several homes in Radford gave out treats through candy shoots and other means meant to keep trick-or-treaters socially distant.


RADFORD – Children in the city found ways to enjoy the Halloween holiday on Saturday despite the current pandemic, from socially distanced trick-or-treating to a Halloween Boo Thru sponsored and staffed by the City of Radford.

Residents in many neighborhoods doled out treats through candy shoots and other methods that encouraged social distancing. The City of Radford turned the outside of the Radford Recreation Department into a drive-thru spooky time, giving out bags of candy at the end.Mayor David Horton, officers of the Radford City Police Department and many other city staff members gave out the treats.

Central United Methodist Church hosted a pumpkin decorating contest, where people got the chance to view and vote on their favorite jack-o-lanterns from their socially-distanced vehicles, with pumpkins decorated as pirates to Star Wars characters and much more. Children who attended the event received candy at the end.
