Gilda McDaniel Carden, born on July 12, 1933, passed away Nov. 9, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rutherford Guy and Hettie Ellen McDaniel; her husband, Ernest Ray Carden; and brothers Johnny, Larry, and David McDaniel.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Kathy),Timothy (Maureen), and Mark (Karen); daughter Donna Berry (Brad); grandchildren Heather Eschbach (Chris), Jonathan Berry, Thomas Wolfe (Gina), Nathan Carden (Stephany), and Leslie Berry; great-grandchildren Miles and Warren Eschbach, and Augusta Mae Wolfe; siblings Jimmy McDaniel, Carl McDaniel (Chong), Steve McDaniel (Kathy), and Barbara John; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Gilda graduated from Shawsville High School and retired from Bell Atlantic (C & P Telephone) after 33 years. She was a member of Christiansburg Baptist Church. Gilda loved God, family, and friends. She was an avid Hokie fan and never missed a game.
She loved gardening, trees, birds, The Eagles, Tom Petty, and Merle Haggard. Dad passed early and Mom raised her four children by herself. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation is Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, from noon to 1 p.m. at Christiansburg Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Sean Couch and Carl McDaniel officiating. A private family interment will follow.
