Mary Chapman Moore Gearheart, 79, of Radford, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024.

She retired after 35 years of service with Virginia Tech and Radford University and was a longtime member of the former Central United Methodist Church in Radford. She was a dedicated volunteer at the former Radford Hospital and was a local Girl Scout leader and cookie manager for years. She taught fifth grade Sunday School at the former Central UMC, and loved to sew Raggedy Ann dolls, Sara’s costumes, curtains and quilts.

Mary Chapman was preceded in death by her parents, James and Forrest Moore; husband of 42 years, T.G. Gearheart, Jr.; and sister, June Riley Moore.

Survivors include her daughter, Sara Gearheart; stepsons, Tom (Vickie) Gearheart, Tim (Becky) Gearheart, and Chris Gearheart; four grandchildren; a great grandson; brother, Tom (Ann) Moore; sister, Elizabeth (Roy) Pruett; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 9 until 11 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Central Church in Radford. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Rev. Don Shelor and Pastor Doug Levy officiating. Interment will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. She loved the color green, please wear your favorite shade of green to honor her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a cause that’s near to your heart. Mary Chapman always said that we are here to take care of one another.

The Gearheart family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
