Former Christiansburg and Powell Valley football coach Phil Robbins has passed away at the age of 81.

He won seven state football titles at Powell Valley and had one of the most dominant teams over that time period.

While at Powell Valley, Robbins led the football team to 10 regional championship titles and seven state titles. As head track coach, his teams won 11 regional and two state championships.

Robbins coached for over 30 years and amassed a career record of over 300 wins in football. He coached four players who would become collegiate First Team All-Americans. As a track coach he won the Walter Cormack Award for the development of an outstanding track program and won the Southwest Virginia Football Coach of the Year for his accomplishments as a football coach. Robbins has served as the president of the Virginia High School Coaches Association and was inducted into the Virginia High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
