The contest in Virginia’s 9th Congressional District comes down to two critical issues: health care and the economic future of our communities.
On health care, Anthony Flaccavento joins not only Gov. Ralph Northam, but also Republican state legislators in expanding Medicaid coverage for 400,000 Virginians.
Our region is particularly desperate for health care expansion, not just for our workers and families, but also for the survival of our rural hospitals.
Congressman Morgan Griffith has done all he can to kill expansion of health care despite our region’s critical need. “Costs too much,” says Griffith of providing expanded Medicaid after he voted for a huge tax cut for our nation’s corporations and wealthiest.
Anthony Flaccavento understands that basic health care can also help our district guarantee a healthy and productive work force.
As for our economic future, Anthony Flaccavento has worked as an organic farmer leading the creation of a market for farmers in southwest Virginia to sell produce to regional and national groceries.
He has been a leader in working with communities to promote outdoor recreation, artisan and cultural trails that have revived these communities and boosted their tax revenues.
He has dedicated much of his life to creating a new, sustainable economy in southwest Virginia—stressing self help, hard work and an appropriate role for government.
