RADFORD – Dressed in their best business clothes, several Radford children recently got a lesson in the proper way to meet, greet, eat and more in a creative fundraiser for the Radford Heritage Foundation.

Kathleen Harshberger, who runs the Kathleen Harvey Harshberger School of Protocol, recently led two sessions of her popular “Everyday Etiquette and Dining Skills” class, designed for young people ages 8-12 and 13-17. In the class, children learned “how to introduce him or herself with confidence, the value of a smile, how to shake hands, speak with grown-ups,

table manners, writing a thank you note, telephone etiquette and more,” according to information released by Harshberger.

Harshberger, trained and certified by the Protocol School of Washington, donated her time for two four-hour interactive classes. The classes raised $2,300, which will be used for the Radford Centennial Community Committee’s project to print a 2010 RU Centennial Calendar as a fundraiser for Radford Heritage Foundation.

“It’s a win-win situation for everyone,” Vice Mayor Dr. Richard Harshberger said of the calendar project at a recent Radford City Council meeting. “Radford University will get a calendar to commemorate their centennial, the university will help us market the calendar and proceeds will go back to the Radford Heritage Foundation.”

The commemorative calendar has gone to print and will be available for purchase soon.
