Judith Long Dodson, 84, of Radford, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 21, 2026. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and worked for many years in Charlottesville and Virginia Beach public schools, and at New River Community College as an adult education instructor.
Born Nov. 8, 1941, she was a graduate of RHS 1960; Radford University, BS Education, 1963; and Old Dominion University, MA English Literature, 1985.
Survivors include sons, Russ Dodson of Virginia Beach and Andy Dodson of Radford; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jose Martinez of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Dodson, Gabrielle Weis and Jolie Steinbaugh; and several nieces and nephews.
Judith cared deeply for the Radford community, her family, friends, and her neighbors, and always showed us that love wasn’t something to be kept on a shelf. She gave it freely to all those around her.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to the staff at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Virginia Beach for their care, skill, and affection given to Judith during her stay over the past few years.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at Central Church Radford. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Rev. Don Shelor officiating. Interment will follow in West View Cemetery in Radford, next to her parents.
