Delegate Jason Ballard
Virginia General Assembly
When Virginia Democrats gathered recently to certify the top of their 2025 ticket, they did the same thing that they did during the General Assembly reconvened session: focus on President Trump. It’s pretty easy to see why – it’s the same reason they avoided votes they considered to be “hard” whenever possible. At the end of the day, all statewide Democrats have to offer is rhetoric and failed policies.
In the 2025 legislative session, Republicans put forward legislation that would create real, immediate results for Virginians. Power bills are too high? Republicans will stop making you pay for someone else’s solar farm. Or at the very least, let you see the breakdown of what you are paying for in each electric bill. Worried about crime in your community? Republicans will make it easier to hold fentanyl dealers accountable, keep dangerous felons in prison for the majority of their sentences, and crack down on illegal immigrants who commit violent criminal acts. Worried about your children’s education? Republicans will raise academic standards, restore teachers’ authority to maintain discipline, and ensure that classroom instruction is based on proven educational methods.
General Assembly Democrats are the same people who refuse to acknowledge that wide scale school closures during the COVID era were unnecessary and, in many cases – especially in rural regions such as ours – irreparably harmful to the learning environment of our children. They pushed policies that closed businesses – putting thousands of Virginians out of work – as well as severely restricting the activities of churches and other places of religious congregation.
Solutions put forth by Virginia Democrats are paper thin at best. When confronted with the high cost of housing or prescription drugs, their best answer is usually “price controls.” They have tried to force you to subsidize solar farms in your backyard, even if you do not want them. They have tried to force you to purchase electric vehicles, even if they do not fit your lifestyle or are too expensive for you to afford. And Democrats have tried to make you pay new taxes on a haircut or car repair, instead of working with Republicans to eliminate taxes universally hated by all, such as the annual car tax, which will be arriving in our mailboxes soon.
At nearly every turn this year, General Assembly Democrats stood in the way of Republican policies that would make life less expensive, our communities safer, and our educational system focused on positive student outcomes. While state Democrats waste time by campaigning against President Trump, Virginia Republicans are focused on delivering real solutions that make life better for Virginians.
