Bringing over 30 years of experience in college athletics to Radford University, Scott Davis was named Associate Athletics Director for Advancement as announced by Director of Athletics Robert Lineburg on Wednesday afternoon. Davis is set to begin his new position on March 1.

Davis joins Radford Athletics from Virginia Tech, where he has served as the Director of Major Gifts for Intercollegiate Athletics for the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund since May 2016.

He also served in associate and assistant director roles in his 13 years as his responsibilities included identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors to the Hokie Club.

“We are very pleased that Scott will be joining Radford Athletics and the Radford University Advancement team. Scott has an outstanding background as a student-athlete, coach and administrator,” Lineburg said. “I have known Scott for many years and he is a man of tremendous character. We are looking forward to him leading the Highlander Club and helping us continue to move in a positive direction.”

In his role as Director of Major Gifts, Davis secured over 300 major gifts and pledges totaling more than $30 million for the Virginia Tech Athletics Fund. Davis also assisted in an implementation of a new annual fund-giving model, which raised $15.7 million during the 2017 fiscal year.

He served as the project leader of the 2012 Lane Stadium reseating which resulted in a $4.728 million increase in revenue. He played a major part in Virginia Tech’s $1 billion university comprehensive campaign, exceeding the athletic department’s goal of $200 million.

“We are very excited to welcome Scott to the Radford University Advancement team. Scott brings a breadth of experience in higher education ranging from organizational management to marketing and fundraising,” said Vice President for University Advancement Wendy Lowery. “Scott will only enhance our efforts as we continue to grow the philanthropic arm of the university. His passion, expertise and commitment to student athletes will add tremendous value to the Highlander experience.”

Davis came to Virginia Tech from Virginia Military Institute, where he served as an Associate Athletic Director for nine years after being promoted from an assistant.

Davis served as the direct supervisor of baseball, men’s and women’s soccer, rifle, and wrestling. He assisted with the developing, planning and reviewing of VMI’s athletic budget. Davis also served as the compliance and marketing director during his time in Lexington.
