Gerald W. (Jerry) Cook, 79, of Long Shop, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at his home. He was born in Giles County, VA on July 15, 1939 to the late Harmon and Evelyn Dowdy Cook. He was preceded in death by his son, Roger Dale Cook.
Jerry retired from A.E.P. after 31 years of service. He was also a Master Mason with the Newport Masonic Lodge #261 AF&AM. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman and gun enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys L. Cook; daughter and son-in-law, Anita Wilson and husband, Louis; son, Mark Cook; stepsons, Tim McCoy and wife, Cindy, Clay McCoy; grandchildren, Josh Cook, Nicholas Wilson, David Cook; special friends, Jimmy Wertz and Gary Johnson. Gladys wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for the outstanding care, compassion, and love they showed Jerry and the family.
Memorial services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 17, 2018 at 5 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Lee Price officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-5 p.m. prior to the service at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr. S.W. Blacksburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 1160 Moose Drive, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
