Radford Photo Club meeting

The Radford Photo Club’s next meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Radford Public Library. The speaker will be retired naval aviator, Captain Rich Davis, who was recently featured on Artistic Encounters – “Meet the Artist” on PBS. The meeting is open to the public. Saturday, Nov. 16:

 

NAACP branch elections

The NAACP-Montgomery Co-Radford City-Floyd Co Branch # 7092 will hold its Branch Election for the 2025-2027 term. The purpose of the election is to fill the officer positions including four Members at Large. The election conducted by the National Office via Election Buddy (online electronic voting system) will be Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024 from noon to 4 p.m. Members will see their ballots via email and text message. In order to vote one must be a member in good standing of the branch 30 days prior to the election. Musical Celebration

The Missionary Society of First Baptist Church, 555 West Rock Rd., Radford, will have a musical celebration, “Make a Joyful Noice” at 3 p.m. Area choirs, praise teams, and individual voices from the NRV will be presenting musical selections. The public is invited.

First Baptist Church, 555 West Rock Road, Radford will celebrate its 153rd Church Anniversary at the 11 a.m. Worship Service. Elder Marlin Reeves, III will be the guest speaker for the hour.

 

Vintage Market

Market Square Park, 100 Draper Rd. SW, Blacksburg, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The market is made up of a carefully chosen group of vendors who sell a wide selection of quality vintage items, upcycled crafts, and occasional antiques.

Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting

The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7p.m. at Aly’s Family Italian Restaurant, 3204 Riner Rd. Members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) are also invited to attend. Radford City Council meeting

The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

 

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting

Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

 

Tuesday, Nov. 26:

 

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

 

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council.

Blacksburg Aquatic Center closed

The Blacksburg Aquatic Center will be closed for construction, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Lap swim will be available Monday-Friday, 5:30-8:30 a.m. and 5:30-8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. and Sunday 1- 4:45 p.m. There will be no morning Water Aerobics or Therapy Swim. The Aquatic Center should reopen and resume normal operating hours Monday, Nov. 11.

Faculty Showcase Exhibition

The Radford University Faculty Showcase Exhibition is open in the Radford University Tyler Gallery, Tyler Avenue, Radford. Come see artwork from faculty across the campus through Nov. 20. The closing reception will be Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. and includes refreshments.

 

Now through Nov. 29:

 

Call for Artists: Design and create a mural facing E. Main St.

The Town of Christiansburg is looking for an artist to bring their creativity to life. The Christiansburg Public Arts Advisory Board is accepting applications for artists to paint a vibrant mural capturing the natural beauty of the New River Valley. The location for the mural installation is the East Main Street side of the building located at 3 Roanoke St. More information and how to apply can be found at www.christiansburg.org/callforartists. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 29, 2024, 5 p.m.
