So, You Want To Be A Beekeeper?!

The New River Valley Beekeepers Association presents an free overview of beekeeping from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm at the Blacksburg Library Christiansburg. Presenters Bob Whiton and Glenn Buss will instruct on how to start keeping bees. How much does it cost? How much honey will I get? How much time does it take? Is honey really as good for you as they say? How important are honeybees for pollination? Can I make beeswax candles? Won’t the neighbors object? Now is the time to start in 2019! Get the answers to all your questions.

Radford Public Library Book Sale

Feb. 8, 9 and 10

There will be a Book Sale at the Radford Public Library on Friday & Saturday, February 8 and 9from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 10 from 1-5 p.m.. Adult hardbacks are $1 and paperbacks are $.50. Children’s books are half the price of adult books. There are some specially priced books and there will be a free table. Come and support the Radford Public Library.

At St. Luke & Odd Fellows Hall (203 Gilbert Street) in Blacksburg. Three different seating times are available: Noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Feb. 9 Tickets are $25.00. Seating is limited because the hall is small, so purchase tickets in advance at blacksburgmuseum.org or by calling 540-443-1600, or by stopping by the Alexander Black House & Cultural Foundation during regular business hours, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.

Become a licensed public school teacher

March 14

Montgomery County Public Schools will be holding a community meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 in the School Board Office for individuals who currently hold a bachelor’s degree and may be interested in becoming licensed teachers.

Community Health Center of the New River Valley helps adults access VA health coverage

Beginning Jan. 1, 2019, new health coverage for adults will cover more people. If you work in retail, construction, childcare, landscaping, food service or many of the jobs that don’t offer health insurance, you may be able to get low-cost health insurance that includes regular preventive care and treatment for chronic health conditions. Montgomery Museum volunteer opportunities

A number of volunteer opportunities are available at the Montgomery Museum.

Docent: training is provided for individuals to staff the front office, answer calls, make sales, and interpret the history of the museum; events planning: planning and implementation of our major events annually, including Heritage Day, Mountains of Music, h’Arts on Main, Cruisin’ Christiansburg; Working with any of the committees: (Membership, Marketing, Events/Fundraising, Building Expansion, Building and Grounds); research with genealogy projects: working with the genealogy team; gardening: working in the garden with Virginia Master Gardeners.
