CHS girls finish third, boys come in fifth in Region 3D swimming

Christiansburg High School hosted this week’s Class 3 Region D swimming and diving championships at the aquatic center, and the Blue Demon boys swam to a fifth-place finish while the girls came in third.

Cave Spring took the girls’ title with 148 points. Hidden Valley finished second with 125, ahead of Christiansburg’s 83 points and Lord Botetourt’s 79. 

William Byrd was the boys’ champions with 104 points with Carroll County second at 92 and Cave Spring third at 74. Hidden Valley was fourth with 71 points and Christiansburg tallied 6 points.

Individually on the boys’ side of the pool, senior Jacob Manieri brought home a regional title in the 200-yard freestyle. Teammates Luke Rawlings claimed a regional title in the 1-meter diving.

Teaghan Wilson won first place for the Christiansburg girls’ team in 1-meter diving while Anna Sanford was the titlist in the 500-yard freestyle. 

Christiansburg freshman Christina Lacy was second for the girls in the 100-yard freestyle, and fellow freshman Viktoria Zeff swam home in second place in the 100-yard breaststroke.  

Christiansburg’s Kathryn Durbin swims in the Region 3D 100 yard butterfly championship, placing fourth in a time of 1:07.66.
