Christiansburg boys, Blacksburg girls win state indoors

What a difference a day makes is the explanation to the state’s 3D indoor track meet. After Friday’s events, the Christiansburg High School boys were in fourth place, but they dominated several long-distance events on Day Two to claim the state title.

Christiansburg’s Ethan Mills leads teammate Trey Wilson down the stretch of the 1,000-meter run. Mills would claim two state individual titles in Saturday’s Class 3 state indoor track meet at Roanoke College.

Blacksburg’s Ailene Edwards receives the baton from Audrey Link in the 4X800 relay event of the Class 4 indoor meet. The Blacksburg squad would finish first with a time of 9:37.09.

Blacksburg’s Katelyn Wolfe makes a final pass on a fellow competitor in Saturday’s 3,200 meters to bring home a state individual championship.

Saturday was also a good day for the Blacksburg High School as they rolled to the Class 4 indoor girls’ title.

Both classifications were held at Roanoke College.

Christiansburg tallied 62.5 points to power by Western Albemarle’s 52.75. I.C Norcum finished third in the boys’ competition with 46 points and Heritage was fourth with 45.5. One the girls’ side of the track Christiansburg finished seventh as Western Albemarle took the team trophy with 84 points. Culpeper was second with 62.5 and I.C. Norcom third with 49 points

Blacksburg’s girls dominated the competition with 71.5 points with Midlothian High School second with 54 points. Hanover was third and Churchland fourth.

The Blacksburg boys would finish second behind Loudoun Valley 97-36. Churchland was third with 32.5 points and Fauquier fourth with 32. Thomas Coffey finished first in the 55-meter hurdles.

The Blacksburg 4X200 relay team would bring home a second place in the state event.

Kaitlynn Wolfe finished third for the girls’ in the 1,600. Wolfe claimed the state title in the 3,200 with a time of 11:05.81.

Christiansburg’s Ethan Mills (Virginia Tech commit) brought home boys’ titles in the 1,600 and 1,000 meters. His teammate Trey Wilson was second in both events.

Rachel Lloyd gave the Lady Demons a state title in the pole vault with a mark of 11-0.
