Carter Rental, the authorized Cat dealer for Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia, has announced plans for a new Christiansburg location.

The site is located in the Shelor Motor Mile area, 2091 and 2095 Roanoke St., of the town and is under review by the planning commission.

“It’s an exciting time of growth as we expand our footprint to customers new and old,” said Mike Fogarty, Carter Rental director of business development, strategy and growth for rental services. “We have some very aggressive goals for rental, and the three elements to our growth strategy that will enable us to achieve them are rental fleet growth, footprint expansion, and growing our rental team member base.”

The Christiansburg site has been home to an automobile storage area for a number of years and is adjacent to Roanoke Street Park-in-Ride lot.

Christiansburg leaders would have to approve a conditional use permit for the 5.81-acre site, which is currently zoned for General Business District B-3. The property is currently designated as Mixed Use with Buffer (Residential/Business) on the Future Land Use Map of the 2013 Christiansburg Comprehensive Plan.

Carter has also announced plans for two other new locations in is preparing to open three new stores in District Heights, Md., and Suffolk, Va., and hopes to be open in early 2024. The company provides products for construction, earthmoving, landscaping, specialty trades, paving and many industries.

The applicant is requesting approval of a CUP to allow the use of machinery and equipment sales, service and storage, and for a contractor equipment storage yard, and for rental of equipment commonly used by contractors. Carter is currently based in Salem.
