Carter Machinery has officially opened a new CAT Rental location in Christiansburg.

This past week, company officials welcomed local leaders and a special visit by Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin to its 2095 Roanoke Street location.

Mayor Michael Barber said the town was thankful for the company locating in Christiansburg, in such a close proximity to Interstate 81 and lots of major construction projects.

The new location is 5.5 acres with a 12,300 sq. ft. footprint of a building and serves as a sales and rental yard for Carter equipment.

This is the company’s first CAT compact location in the Carter territory with more to cover. Overall, there are 27 Carter Rental locations across multiple divisions.

Craig Kahorn is Carter’s executive vice president. He said the opening shows the company’s investment in local communities. “That is always our goal.”

Carter Rental is a division of Carter Machinery, the authorized Cat dealer for Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and southeast West Virginia.

The opening included a visit by new Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin, several players signing autographs and the Hokie bird. The company is no stranger to the Hokie community.

has secured a three-year partnership with Virginia Tech Athletics to become the Hokies’ preferred equipment partner, marking a significant investment in the university’s athletic programs and facilities. A special decorated Hokie skid loader sits on the lot of the new location.

In a company statement: “As the largest Cat equipment dealer in the Mid-Atlantic, Carter Machinery supports the industries and infrastructure projects that fuel economic growth across Virginia. The Virginia Tech Athletics partnership reflects the company’s continued investment in the communities it serves while providing a platform to demonstrate how reliable equipment and service excellence power critical operations – from major construction projects to university facility management.”

Carter will have 14 employees at the Christiansburg location.

Virginia Tech football Coach James Franklin took time to share the opening with area fans and Carter employees.
