Martha “Marti” Gibson Carr, 74, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at her home in Dublin. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.


Marti worked many years as a medical records transcriber. She also worked as a credit card administrator and an administrative assistant for Hercules and Alliant Tech at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, retiring with 28 years of service.

Marti was an accomplished artist and loved all kinds of craft work. She was an avid scrapbooker and spent countless hours socializing and scrapbooking with many beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James G. Gibson Sr. and Geneva Nelson Gibson; brothers, James L. Gibson, Jr. and Jerry D. Gibson; and brother-in-law, Philip B. Carr, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, Ronald “Ron” L. Carr of Dublin; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Wesley Vest of Newbern; son and daughter-in-law, Anthony T. “Terry” and Sonia Carr of Salem; grandchildren, Tya and Breeana Carr of Salem, and Aaron, Tommy and Erika Vest of Newbern; brother and sister-in-law, Larry D. and Cynthia Gibson of Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Louise Yvonne “Vonnie” and Thomas Gaines of Charleston, South Carolina; special sister-in-law, Reba Akers of Elliston; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery Volunteers, Laying of the Wreaths Program, P.O. Box 11373, Blacksburg, VA, 24062-1373.

The Carr family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
