The Montgomery Museum and Great Road Events, Christiansburg is calling for artists as it organizes the first ever ‘H’arts on Main’, weekend-long arts festival in February.
The event will include arts vendors and demonstrators, a People’s Choice award, an Art Talk and Wine Tasting led by local historian Scott Crawford, and a concert featuring The Celtibillies who relink Celtic and Appalachian music traditions of southwest Virginia in reels and sthrathspeys. and Christiansburg native and internationally acclaimed helden-tenor, Robert Chafin.
The Call for Artists seeks submissions of paintings, photography, sculpture, woodworking, jewelry, glass, and pottery.
This non-juried art show will feature a People’s Choice award of 2-D art. All participating artists may select one painting or photograph for the People’s Choice wall. The three artists receiving the most votes will be recognized with ribbons. The first place winner will receive an award of $200 and their artwork will be offered as the prize in a drawing that will be held at the climax of the weekend, Saturday evening.
It is recommended, though not required, that artists submit only artwork valued at no more than $200. Sales are commission free.
2-D and 3-D fine art will be accepted for the show, and all work must meet the family-friendly standards of the Montgomery Museum.
This event will be held indoors in a beautiful open room with stained glass windows and tall, vaulted ceilings. WiFi is available. All booth registrants may visit the space prior to the event.
Applications will be accepted until all 16 booths are filled. Deadline is January 31.
Booth spaces are 10×10. Fees are $45/booth. Artists wishing to share a booth will pay $30 each and must find a partner.
Exhibit hours run from Friday, February 16: 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 17: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Packing/breaking down must wait until those hours are over.

The weekend-long festival will begin on Friday night with a wine tasting and lecture by Scott Crawford titled ”Exploring the Emotions of the Heart on Main: Western Depictions of Passion, Life, and Love.” Crawford’s Art Talks with Wine Tastings have been quite popular with museum followers the Montgomery Museum said.
On Saturday evening The Celtibillies, led by Jack Hinshelwood, Crooked Road Executive Director, will perform a wide range of traditional Celtic and Appalachian Old-Time music along with operatic tenor Robert Chafin who has performed world-wide. These excellent musicians will recreate a concert performed nine years ago. Both evening events will begin at 7 p.m.
The weekend festival will be held Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17, 2018. Artist set-up begins at 9 a.m. on Friday at Great Road Events, 100 West Main Street, Christiansburg (former the Baptist Church)
