William T. “Billy” Caldwell, 81, of Christiansburg, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home with his wife by his side, on Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, after a long battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dode and Gertrude Caldwell; his father- and mother-in-law, Everett and Sylvia Williams; and his precious little cat, Smokey.

Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 57 years, Jackie; his son, Kenneth (Carol); his daughter, Tammy Caldwell and her friend James Shorter; grandson Jesse (Alee); granddaughter Katie Caldwell; special friends Bill and Pat Tolbert; and a host of loving and caring friends at Cambria Baptist Church of which he was a member.

He was a 1958 graduate of Newport High School, and he retired in 2000 after 39 years in the monument business (Willard Monument Co.). He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved going to church and spending time with his family and friends.

Billy loved traveling with Jackie, working together at their home in the yard and flower gardens and spending time in his woodworking shop. He enjoyed going fishing with his son, Kenneth, and going to the NASCAR races with his daughter, Tammy.

Special thanks to all the staff at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Carilion NRV Hospital, Blue Ridge Cancer Care and The Radiation Center; his nurses Kari, Emily and Vicki from MediHome Health and Hospice Care; and Barbara and Kim at CVS Pharmacy.

Per his request, there will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg and a drive-through service for all those who knew him at 1:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020. His service will be given by his dear friends Jim Woolwine, Bill Miller, Bill Moore and Ronnie Covey. Hymns will be sung by Pat Tolbert and his family.

Flowers will be appreciated, or you can make a donation to the Rescue Mission in Roanoke, Feeding Southwest Virginia in Salem or the Montgomery Co. Animal Shelter.

The Caldwell family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home and Crematory in Radford.  www.mullinsfuneralhome.com.
