Ted served in the Army Medical Corp after completing medical school.  He then worked as a Board Certified OB-GYN in New Bern, NC and Radford, VA and brought 5000 new lives into this world.

Ted was happily married to Phyllis Ann Crenshaw Burton for 62 years, living in Radford, VA for 22 years before returning to their home in New Bern, NC following his retirement in 1996.

Ted was a faithful member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he served as Chair of the Administration Board and Staff Parish.  Ted was also an active member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and the Rotary Club.

Ted is survived by his four children: Chris (Kristine) Burton, Kevin Burton, Linda (Stephen) Mungall, and Ann (Steve) Lambert; his 10 grandchildren: Brian (Whitney) Burton, Kristin Burton, Michael (Rheanna) Burton, Kelly (Michael) Distler, Megan (Admas) Belay Mungall, Brooke (Andrew) Chambers, Hunter (Sarah) Lambert, Samantha (Jordan) Barnette, Lauren (Nicholas) Stone, and Hope Mungall; his seven great-grandchildren: Layla, Maggie, Sadie, Beau, Natalie, Emersen and Madeleine; and his cherished dog, Gigi. Ted is predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Phyllis Burton; sister, Dawne Maxey; and Kevin’s wife, Sarah Burton.

A private graveside service in memory of Ted will be held at a later date in Richmond, Va.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Centenary UMC, PO Box 1388, New Bern, NC 28763 or to Shriners Hospital. Online condolences can be made www.cottenfuneralhome.com.  Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Ted Burton.
