Vittorio Alberto Bonomo, 80, of Blacksburg passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 20, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at his home.

He was born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania Oct. 26, 1936 to the late Aldo and Maria Capani Bonomo. He earned his undergraduate degree from Duquesne University and his PhD in Economics from Brown University.

His early teaching career began at University of California, Santa Barbara. He subsequently taught at Virginia Tech in the College of Business for 48 years and received the William E. Wine Award for Teaching Excellence.

He was financial advisor for two Virginia governors and served on advisory boards for many banks and financial institutions during his long and successful career. Vic loved painting, Hokie football and experimenting in the kitchen.

He will be fondly remembered for his dry wit, sense of humor and love for his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane Edwards Bonomo, devoted daughter and son-in-law, Gina Bonomo and David Dugas, beloved grandchildren, Ben Aldo Bonomo and Mary Marcella Dugas, sister and brother-in-law, Diana and William Adamo, brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Constance Bonomo and his faithful “canine son” Sammy.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery and to Good Samaritan Hospice for their care. Services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in his name. Arrangements were made by McCoy Funeral Home Blacksburg.
