A Radford High School track standout will continue his career at Roanoke College. Kyle Martin made it official last week as he signed a letter of intent in the school’s gymnasium in front of family, friends, coaches and teammates.
“I chose Roanoke because it offered the programs and courses that I wanted, and I also felt at home on the campus,” he said.
At Roanoke, he plans to run the 10k for Cross Country, and most likely the 5k and the two mile for track.
Martin’s high school coach, Jenna Rae, called him a very hard-working senior who has progressed tremendously since seventh grade.
He earned multiple all-region 2C honors throughout his career and qualified for the 2A state meet all four years of varsity.
“Kyle has given a lot to the RHS XCTF program and we will miss him as he moves into the next chapter of his academic and athletic career soon,” Rae said.
Workman enters his second year at the helm of the Roanoke Cross Country and Track & Field Programs after spending the past seven seasons at Washington & Jefferson in Washington, Pa.
Martin said one his best moments of his high school career was finishing with all-region honors, as well as achieving all-state honors.
“I pride myself in my work ethic and dedication to the sport,” he said.
At Roanoke, Martin will join fellow Bobcat, Kellen Bishop, who is already a distance member of the program. Auburn’s Daniel Graham and Eastern Montgomery’s Cody Roop are also a part of the RC track and field roster.
Martin plans on majoring in financial planning and stay an extra year to gain an MBA.
