Blanton, Barbara Saunders

Barbara Saunders Blanton, 89, peacefully passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 at her home in Blacksburg.


She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Walter Blanton.

Barbara was the daughter of the late Charles and Ercell Saunders of Crewe.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Robert Gibbons of Midlothian. She is also survived by her daughter, Mary Blanton Childress and husband, Floyd, of Christiansburg; her son, Robert Walter Blanton, Jr. and wife, Rebecca, of Glen Allen; and her grandchildren Michael, his wife Amanda, and Beth Childress of Christiansburg; Katie, Grace and Timothy Blanton of Glen Allen.

Barbara was a 1948 graduate of Longwood College. Prior to marrying Bob Blanton in 1953 she taught business at Amelia High School. Barbara was a devoted wife and loving mother who gave the best of herself in all that she did.

A memorial service will be held Friday April 7, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. in the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. Charles Taylor.

Barbara’s family would like to thank her caregivers Robyn Dawson, Rio McPeak, Laurie Johnston, and Eva Treece for their kind loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montgomery County Christmas Store or Blacksburg Presbyterian Church.
