Blacksburg, Virginia, March 28, 2019 – Blacksburg Transit driver receives top honors at the 2019 Virginia State Bus Roadeo.

Jon Barnes was awarded first place in the 40-foot bus category and the Overall Best Operator
Richard Moll was awarded Rookie of the Year for his first State Roadeo competition

BT sent a team of four operators and three mechanics to compete in Richmond at the State Bus Roadeo on March 23 and 24. Drivers from across the state competed against each other in a series of events including a written test, appearance test and a timed obstacle course. In order to succeed at the overall event, an operator must excel in all aspects of the competition.

The Mechanics compete as a team to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair performance related problems to test the team’s knowledge, skills and abilities.

Jon Barnes was awarded first place in the 40-foot bus category and the Overall Best Operator for receiving the highest score out of all operators who competed in the 35 foot and 40 foot bus categories. He will represent Virginia at the International Roadeo in Louisville, Kentucky in May. BT’s Richard Moll was awarded Rookie of the Year for his first State Roadeo competition.

“Our strong performance in the state competition again this year is a testament to the skilled and dedicated employees we have at BT” said Tom Fox, Transit Director.

Blacksburg Transit will host the State Bus Roadeo in 2020, the first time in more than 10 years.
