The Blacksburg girls’ track team ran away with this past week’s Region 4D track meet in Winchester, scoring 231.5 points. James Wood was second with 75 and E.C. Glass third with 66.5 points.
The Blacksburg boys’ team also took first at 108.33 points to second place Sherando’s 86 and Salem’s 83 points.
Mirabella Garza was a multi-winner for the Lady Bruins. Garza won the 100-meter hurdles, triple jump and long jump. Grace Crowe was the regional discus champ with a throw of 116-05.
Blacksburg’s Tamoy Douglas was second in the 100-meter run and third in the 200. Teammate Mirra Bowman took second in the 200.
In the 400 meters, Blacksburg’s Lena Tyhurst, Sylvia Baranauskas and Lilly Barlowe took positions 2-4.
Reilly Thomas took the 800-meter event with a time of 2:17.753. Blacksburg’s Tess Dickens was second and Penny Griggs fourth.
In the 1,600, Ruthie Delay was second and Lola Olsen third. Mira Bowman finished second in the 100-meter hurdles.
Becca Lowe gave Blacksburg another regional champ in the pole vault, while teammate Mallory Farmer was second.
The boys’ success also found success all over the track with Asher Roach leading the way with a first in the 1600 and second in the 3200. Leighton McGee won the pole vault, and Maddox Jones was second in the 400 meters with Christopher Schilling third in the 200 meters.
Blacksburg’s Louis Semtner finished third in the 800, and Miles Ermann, Rivers Matthews and Miles Wilson were in position of 4-6 behind Roach in the 1,600 meters. William Jenkins also finished third in the 300 hurdles.
