The Blacksburg Newcomers Club recently donated more than $1,600 in toiletries and cleaning supplies to support the Micah’s Personal Care Program at Warm Hearth Village (WHV).

The donations will be delivered directly to residents in need, through WHV’s Resident Service Coordinator Cindy Wiley-Lamb.

“Now more than ever, residents are very happy to receive donations for cleaning and personal care items since these are not readily available or affordable on a limited income,” said Wiley-Lamb. “Receiving these items lets them use money for medication co-pays, haircuts or other crucial needs.”

Warm Hearth Village is a nonprofit senior living community in Blacksburg that provides a full continuum of living options on its campus and in the home.

Micah’s Personal Care Program is a charitable fund of the Warm Hearth Foundation that benefits residents in the Trolinger and New River House apartments at WHV, many of whom struggle to meet their basic needs. Warm Hearth provides subsidized housing to 150 residents whose average income is just $800 per month. The Micah’s programs help when there is not enough money to purchase personal care items, food staples, fresh produce and pet food after rent, utilities and medications are paid for by the resident.

“Our Micah’s programs have grown thanks to the support of businesses and individuals like the Blacksburg Newcomers Club,” said Amy Slone, WHV’s associate director of development. “Their programs aimed at service in our local community provide a great deal of support and we are immensely grateful. We’d also like to thank our local Walmart for a grant we recently received to help support our residents in need.”
