Bishop, Mary Vernon Elkins

Mary Vernon Elkins Bishop, 99, of Hiwassee, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020. She had been a resident at Salem Health and Rehab Center since March 2016.

She was known as a “hard working lady” who worked at the J. Freezer and Son shirt factory in Radford in her young life, as a door checker at Radford University and as a caregiver to her father and husband.

She was the daughter of the late Henry Henderson Elkins and Sara Annie Bishop and was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Bishop.

Survivors include her niece, Nancy Allison Wallen of Hiwassee; and nephews Lynwood and Sue Elkins of Christiansburg, and Dale and Barbara Elkins of Radford; a great niece, Karen Vaughn Lacks of Vinton; and many friends.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.

The Bishop family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home and Crematory in Radford, www.mullinsfuneralhome.com.
