The Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery is pleased to announce that B. Scott Crawford will give his talk, “The Soul Shall Find Itself Alone”: Exploring Victorian Ways of Death and Mourning on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 5:30 pm. The talk is part of a special introduction to the new exhibit at the Glencoe Mansion on funeral and mourning customs of the 19th century.

B. Scott Crawford will take you back to the Victorian Era, examining the culture of death. Crawford will focus on the Victorian mourning practices as reflected through the arts and historical record. From post-mortem portraits to mourning jewelry, and from the introduction of embalming practices to security coffins, Crawford will bring the history of death in 19th century America alive through this engaging presentation.

The exhibit on Victorian funeral and mourning customs, “Quiet in Our Parlour” will be on display October 3 through November 3 at the Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery.
