Auburn highlighted its dominance in track and field during the Region 1C event on Thursday at Giles County High School.
The Auburn boys outdistanced Narrows 111 to 109 with George Wythe in third with 66 points. The Auburn girls rolled to a 168 to 96 win over second place and host Giles. George Wythe took third in the girls’ competition with 56 points.
Stacy Lewis rolled with three first places and one second to lead Auburn on the girls’ side of the track. Lewis had first places in the 400 meters, long jump (16-08), triple jump (33-03) and 200 meters. She added a second-place finish in the 800 meters.
Teammate Kasey Rosenbaum was the top finisher in the 800 meters.
Auburn would sweep the pole vault event with a 1-6 position. Kelsie Groseclose cleared 7-0 for first place, followed by Juniper Zander, Chloe Rorrer, Gretchen Surface, Katherine Light and Macaela Richmeir.
Chloe Rorrer would finish second in the 300-meter hurdles.
The 4X800 relay team from Eastern Montgomery would claim first place in the Thursday’s regional competition.
On the boys’ side of the track, Auburn would claim 1-4 in the pole vault. Nick Millirons was first, followed by Talen Mower, Michael Wilson and Bennett Surface.
Drew Royal would give Auburn a first place in the high jump with a leap of 6-02. Auburn’s Michael Wilson was second in the event.
Bryce Dehart was one of the top performers for Auburn with a first place in the 100 meters (11.4) and second in the 200 meters.
Auburn’s Andrew Tickle was first, and Eastern Montgomery’s Nick Smith was second in the 1,600 meters.
Eastern Montgomery’s Spencer Sisson was second at the 3,200 meters. His teammate, Caleb Sampson, crossed the line in third place. Eastern Montgomery’s Xavier Brown was second in the boys’ discus.
Team-wise, Eastern Montgomery finished fifth in both the boys’ and girls’ competition.
