Jamie (played by Noah Kargman), a runaway who has been befriended by Mack (played by Al Nierwinski), the local woodworking artist, and Mattie Sue (played by Sally Miller), one of the town’s more interesting characters who has come to do her Christmas shopping, are among the characters in Attic Productions’ presentation of “FrUiTCaKeS” that opens Thursday.

Attic Productions’ holiday play, “FrUiTCaKeS,” opens this week at the D. Geraldine Lawson Performing Arts Center and runs Thursdays-Saturdays through December 9.

The holiday comedy is the story of two Southern spinster sisters (who don’t get along but live in the same “divided” house), an estranged old woodworker, a runaway boy and a chicken pox epidemic set against a Christmas backdrop in a small southern town in the 1980s.

Directed by Wyatt Ewell, the play opens nightly at 7:30 p.m. on the Layman Auditorium stage and at 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays during the Nov. 30, Dec. 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 run.

Adult tickets are $12, with a reduced rate for those 18 years and under and for groups of 10 or more at $10.

For reservations, call the Attic Productions box office, 473-1001. Volunteers are staffing the office on Mondays and Wednesday, 3-7 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Attic Productions, Botetourt County’s community theatre, is located 7490 Roanoke Road, Fincastle.
