RADFORD – Former Radford City Council member and long-time Radford volunteer Annyce Levy was honored with the Robert Allen Hall Humanitarian Service Above Self Citizenship Award Monday in recognition of her many contributions to the Radford community.
Levy was given the award during the Radford City Council meeting after city council members unanimously passed a resolution to do so.
“Annyce Levy dedicated her life to serving others through her profession as a school nurse for [more than] 30 years,” states the resolution passed by city council. “Annyce Levy is known as a role model to all those around her. She is dedicated, compassionate, intelligent, selfless and dependable and is an unsung hero always working to better Radford.”
Upon receiving the award, Levy was given a standing ovation.
I think we need to remember that nothing is ever accomplished alone and it takes everybody working together to achieve things,” she said. “There are hundreds of people in this city that do things every day for somebody, to make someone’s life better. I share this with all of my wonderful, wonderful friends in this community.”
“Annyce you are gracious as always, but thank you for your leadership and service,” said Mayor David Horton. “We are so appreciative of you.”
Levy served on Radford City Council and, during her time on council, helped to develop the Radford Farmers Market and the Radford Recreation Center, and served on the Radford Heritage Foundation board, NRV Community Services board and the University-City Joint Commission as the council representative. She continues to serve on the Radford Heritage Foundation as the vice-chair, and is also a Radford Public Library board member, and a member of the Lamplighters, member of P.E.O and a Radford Clothing Bank volunteer. She has also served the community through Central United Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church of Radford.
The Robert Allen Hall Humanitarian Service Above Self Citizenship Award was founded in 2011 to honor the late “Big Al” Hall, who was an ardent volunteer in Radford. The award seeks to “recognize unsung heroes who contribute to making the City of Radford a better place,” the humanitarians who “extend benevolence and kindness by putting others before one’s self.”
