Harold David Akers, Jr., 61, of Christiansburg, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024. 

He was born in Christiansburg on April 19, 1963, to the late Harold David, Sr. and Eulene Wilson Akers. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Barbara Midkiff Akers. 

David was a long-time member of the Christiansburg Hunt Club, and Montgomery County Game and Fish Club. David was a member of the Christiansburg Fire Department for over 39 years and was a past president, secretary, and life member of the Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association. As well as a member and past secretary of the Virginia State Firefighters Association. He was a long-time employee at Moog.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Debbie Price Akers; son, Tanner Akers (Morgan Sowers); sister, Martha Lynn Akers; mother-in-law, Barbara Price; aunts, Janice Jones, Martha G. Akers, as well as several cousins, and brothers and sisters in fire service.

A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024, at 5 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Neal Turner officiating. The family will receive friends from 3- 5 p.m. before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Christiansburg Fire Department, 110 Depot St., Christiansburg, Va. 24073. The family wishes to thank the ICU South 9 doctors, nurses, and staff at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and the Christiansburg Fire Department for their support during David’s illness.
