Feeding the Hungry grant addresses food insecurity and supports nutrition education

CHRISTIANSBURG – Agape Center NRV has received $2,200 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish neighbors experiencing hunger.

The Feeding the Hungry grant supports Agape Center NRV’s efforts to reduce food insecurity in the New River Valley. The gift will be used to purchase additional food items, which will be distributed to clients free of charge. Donations such as this allow the organization to serve more clients in need. In addition, the grants support community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.

“In addition to this generous grant that Foodlion Feeds Charitable Foundation has awarded to Agape Center NRV, we would also like to recognize Foodlion’s support of our organization over the years,” said Reg Crockett of the Agape Center. “The continued support of donors such as Foodlion makes what we do possible. And those in our community, who are in need, can look to Foodlion as a major source of the assistance they receive through Agape Center NRV. On behalf of the volunteer staff of Agape Center NRV and the citizens of the New River Valley, I can say that we are all eternally grateful.”

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $18.1 million in grants.
