Virginia Tech graduate Matilda Ekh is set to represent Sweden in the 2025 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket this summer.

Held every two years, EuroBasket serves as a competition amongst Europe’s best nations.

Belgium won the last tournament in 2023, while Sweden’s best finish in the competition was sixth back in 2019.

The Swedes will face Germany (June 19), Great Britain (June 20) and Spain (June 22) in Group D action later this week.

Ekh played for the Hokies for two seasons and was a part of the 2023-24 squad that captured the program’s first ACC regular-season title after helping the Hokies to a 14-4 record in league play that season. During her senior season in 2024-25 she led the Hokies in 3-point shooting and was named to the ACC’s All-Academic Team for the second time. Ekh also recorded the 1,000th point of her collegiate career while with the Hokies.

Hokie National College team Virginia Tech’s Anna Weir was one of 42 players called up to the first-ever U.S. Soccer Women’s College Talent ID Camp. The camp will take place from June 18-22 in Atlanta.

The camp is part of the growing U.S. Youth National Teams’ scouting strategy to increase programming opportunities for college-specific players and help expand the U.S. Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 Women’s National Team player pools.

The camp will be a collaboration between the Talent ID staff, the U.S. Youth National Teams’ head coaches and USWNT staff.

Weir was an integral part of the Hokies’ run to the Elite Eight, as she started in 17 games during the 2024 season. She tallied four goals and three assists on the season, including the game-winning goal against Campbell to open the season and the opening goal in Tech’s first-round NCAA game against Tennessee. Weir was one of ten forwards selected for the camp.

The camp will feature players primarily from the 2005, 2006 and 2007 birth years, including one goalkeeper from the 2008 birth year. The five-day camp will consist of three training sessions and two intrasquad matches.

Hokie marketing team honored The Virginia Tech Marketing office took home top honors as the NACMA 2025 Marketing Team of the Year presented by Presto Sports at the 2025 NACDA Conference in Orlando on June 9.

NACMA (National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators) is an organization that provides the tools, training and network for collegiate sports marketers to successfully generate revenue, manage brands, and develop fans. J.C. Whidden, senior associate athletics director, brand advancement and external operations, serves on the board.

“We are so humbled and honored by this recognition from our industry peers,” Whidden stated. “While given to the Marketing Team, the award is the culmination of all the tremendous work done over the last year by our entire External Operations team. It’s truly a team effort and team award.”

The Marketing Team won several ‘Best Of’ awards which are peer-reviewed by other college athletics marketers, with points being totaled counting towards the crowning of the Marketing Team of the Year.
