Just six years ago, the Christiansburg High School wrestling program was at the peak of the mountain.
The team had clicked off 17 straight state championships. But since then, Christiansburg has not been able to scratch the top five.
The Blue Demons have had several state champions including back-to-back wins by Brady Hand, but the depth in wins simply has not been there.
During this span, Christiansburg has seen four new coaches after now-Iowa State and former Virginia Tech Coach Kevin Dresser stepped away. The coach’s office has been a revolving door.
Two years ago, former Grundy wrestler David Wimmer seemed ready to grab the golden ring and run with it, but he has since been named wrestling coach at Jefferson Forest.
A short time later, Cody Hughes took the lead at Christiansburg. He has since left the program.
The school started advertising this week for a new coach.
