Christiansburg High School athletic director Tim Cromer has announced the hiring of Sean Gaynor as the school’s new softball coach. Gaynor, who has served as the junior varsity coach in Auburn and with several travel teams, has over 25 years of experience.
Christiansburg finished last season with a 12-9 overall mark, including 8-4 in the competitive River Ridge District. Gaynor replaces Robin Boyd, who stepped down after four seasons in the dugout. The school returns seven starters from that team.
Gaynor initially made the switch from baseball to softball six years ago after helping Auburn High School to several district titles on the diamond.
He is excited about the opportunity and says CHS has an awesome softball program with one of the best facilities in the state of Virginia.
He hopes to promote life skills with the participants.
“Whatever game we play, teach or coach, it should always be about making the athletes better people. I hope to take CHS softball where they have not been before. There is a great group of girls there with a ton of talent,” he said.
Gaynor hopes to meet with his new player sometime this week. He will remain a teacher at Auburn High School.
