County’s treasurer, clerk of court, commissioner of revenue, all retiring
Three of Montgomery County’s top elected officials have announced plans to step down: Clerk of Circuit Court Erica Conner was the first to retire this past month with her deputy assistant being appointed to fill her remaining term for the rest of the year.
The clerk of court position will be one of several up for election this November.
On Monday, revenue commissioner Helen Royal said she will not seek another term. She was first elected to the post in 2011 and has spent more than 37 years in the office.
Brenda Winkle, a long-time employee of the office, has said she will seek to replace her boss.
Then on Tuesday, county treasurer Helen St. Clair announced her retirement effective December 31 after more than 39 years of service.
St. Clair began working in the Montgomery County Treasurer’s Office on Nov. 1, 1984, as a tax technician. After six months, she moved to bookkeeping, and from there she worked in many areas of the office before being promoted to Chief Deputy in 2004.
After being appointed as treasurer in February 2019, St. Clair ran a successful campaign and was elected to the office in November 2019.
“With a staff of eleven employees, we have worked together to continue offering exceptional customer service and to use the technology available to streamline our processes,” she said.
All three positions are elected by the residents of Montgomery County.
