RADFORD – The Princeton Review has again recognized Radford University’s commitment to sustainable practices by including the University in its annual guide to green campuses.
Known for its test preparatory programs and college rankings, ratings and guidebooks, The Princeton Review profiled Radford University in its Guide to Green Colleges: 2021 Edition. The guide was published on the company’s website on October 21.
Radford University has been included in The Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges since 2010, making this year its eleventh consecutive appearance on the list.
“We’re excited to again be recognized by The Princeton Review as a green campus,” said Radford University Sustainability Manager and Selu Academic Program Manager Josh Nease. “This surely reflects the University’s longstanding commitment to sustainability and constant improvement.”
The Princeton Review selected the schools featured in its guide based on a 2019-2020 survey of administrators at 695 colleges and universities about their institutions’ commitments to sustainability and the environment. The Princeton Review’s editors analyzed more than 25 survey points in the process of selecting the 416 schools for the green guide.
“We strongly recommend Radford University to students who want to study and live at a green college,” said Rob Franek, The Princeton Review’s editor-in-chief. “Each and every one of the outstanding colleges in this edition of our guide offers both excellent academics and exemplary evidence of environmental commitment. ”
The guide provides information about each profiled institution’s admission requirements, cost and financial aid and student demographics. It also includes “green facts” about each school.
Colleges with Green Rating scores of 80 or higher made it into the 2021 guide. Radford University scored an 87 out of a possible 99. That score is partly based upon the University having a formal sustainability committee, a sustainability officer, a car-sharing program, a school-developed bicycle plan and the availability of a free/reduced-price transit program.
“Radford University has a proud tradition of engaging in and promoting sustainability efforts on our campus and in the community,” said Radford University President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D. “Our students, faculty and staff are daily demonstrating their long-standing commitment to the environment through their individual sustainability practices. Their collective commitment is very deserving of this national recognition.”
Furthering its reputation with The Princeton Review’s rating system, Radford University’s campus sustainability initiatives earned a STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System) silver ratings in 2019 from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
Radford University lists sustainability as one of its core values. It is committed to integrating sustainable practices into every area of operation and engaging its students across the curriculum to learn, discover and contribute to positive environmental solutions.
In 2009, Radford University signed the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), showing its commitment to pursuing net carbon neutrality by 2040 and providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the immense sustainability challenges of the 21st century.
