Radford University softball head coach, Hope Creasy, announced the hiring of Megan Hill as the program’s newest assistant coach on Tuesday afternoon.
“I’m really excited about Megan joining our program,” Creasy said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as she has coached at various levels in different regions. Megan will play a major role in providing instruction and guidance to our student athletes on the field and off. Her expertise is in hitting, outfield, and base running. With Megan’s previous playing and coaching experience our coaching staff and student athletes will continue to grow and work to get to the next level.”
Hill spent a year as the assistant coach of East Central (MS) Community College before coming to the New River Valley. She helped the Warriors to a 36-14 overall record and an appearance at the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. East Central was ranked inside the top 10 of the Division II NJCAA Polls for the entire season.
Offensively, the Warriors tallied 501 hits and posted a .356 batting average as a team. Overall East Central totaled 138 extra base hits, including 79 doubles, 18 triples and 40 home runs. The team also had 319 RBIs as a team with 82 stolen bases.
The former collegiate standout was previously a member of the coaching staff at Georgia Southern University where she served as the outfield and hitting coach. She coached a second team NFCA All-South Region selection in Emily Snider. Snider hit 16 home runs while leading the team with a .387 batting average, 16 home runs and 44 RBIs.
Before heading to Statesboro, she spent two seasons on the staff at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Ga. While there, Hill worked with the Wolves’ outfielders and also had a hand in hitting instruction as well as base running instruction. In year one she assisted with the offense and year two she ran the offense. She helped UWG post a 33-23 record in year two, which is 27 more wins than year one. The reason for the success was because they saw an improvement in every offensive category, including around an increase in batting average, more than 100 hits, runs and RBIs.
Preceding her stint at West Georgia, Hill was an assistant coach at Oak Grove High School as well as Petal High School, both in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
At both stops she helped oversee the offense as well as developed the outfielders. At Oak Grove, she was instrumental in guiding the team to the 2013 district championship as well as the 6A South State Championship and the overall 6A state crown. In 2011 at Petal HS, she helped guide the team to the district championship as well as the 6A South State Championship. Petal finished the 2011 campaign as the state runner-up.
In her collegiate playing days, Hill was a standout outfielder for the University of Southern Mississippi. During her stint with the Golden Eagles, Hill was a four-time All-Conference USA selection, including garnering first-team accolades as a junior in 2009. She also earned All-Midwest Region First-Team honors in 2009.
Prior to the 2010 season, she was named the Preseason Conference-USA Player of the Year after earning preseason all-conference honors in both 2008 and 2009. She was named the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year in 2007 and was also named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team that year.
Hill finished her career atop the Golden Eagles’ record book in multiple career offensive categories, including runs scored (148), hits (205), triples (15), home runs (41), runs batted in (151) and on base percentage (.495). She is also currently second in program history with 40 career doubles and a .675 slugging percentage. Hill is in the top-10 in multiple single season offensive categories.
Hill is a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and holds a degree in exercise science from Southern Miss as well as a Master of Arts in teaching from the University of West Georgia.
