Friday Forum with VTWC

The Virginia Tech Women’s Club (VTWC) will host Dr. Richard Masters and VT music students for their annual music program. This annual musical delight will be held at the Fellowship Hall at the Lutheran Memorial Church, 600 Prices Fork Rd., Blacksburg. The performance is a favorite forum and an opportunity to enjoy the music of incredibly talented Hokie students. The free event begins at 10 a.m. but come a little earlier to enjoy coffee, treats, and conversation.

 

Egg-Streme Easter Egg Party

Easter egg hunts aren’t just for kids anymore! Do you have the skills that it takes to find Easter eggs in the dark? If so, join us at Christiansburg Huckleberry Park on Friday, April 3 at 7 p.m. for your chance to win big prizes! Hunt divided into age groups; includes a designated time/area for individuals with disabilities. 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭 t𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬: ages 65+: 8:15 p.m.; individuals with disabilities: 8:15 p.m.; ages 40-64: 8:30 p.m.; ages 18-39: 8:45 p.m. Join us before the hunt for live music, concessions and yard games beginning at 7 p.m. 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬: The event is for ages 18 and up. A flashlight is required to participate. Entry is free with the donation of a nonperishable item. Please wear athletic clothes and shoes.

Radford Easter Egg Hunt

At Bisset Park, 1- 4 p.m. Egg hunt for ages 3-5 at 2 p.m.; ages 6-8 at 2:15 p.m.; ages 9- 12 at 2:30 p.m.; ages 3 and under at 2:45 p.m. Also, bouncy houses, petting zoo, food trucks, face-painting, sweets and photos with the Easter Bunny. Please bring a basket.

 

Blacksburg Easter Egg Hunt

The annual Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Municipal Park. A family-friendly day, fun for all ages! Egg hunt times begin at 10 a.m. for toddler – three-year age group, and 10:30 a.m. for the four-eight-year age group. The event features relay races, pictures with the Easter Bunny, prizes, and more. For more information, contact Community Programs Supervisor Matthew Gentry at mgentry@blacksburg.gov or 540-443-1106.

 

Christiansburg Egg Hunt

The hunt is on! Christiansburg Parks and Recreation and the Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg will host the Great Easter Egg Hunt at Kiwanis Park. Children bring their baskets and search for treasures the Easter Bunny has left behind! The hunt is split into four age groups, ensuring every child gets a fair chance to find some sweet surprises. Please arrive early to claim your spot for your hunt area.

The Easter Bunny will also stop by for photos! 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭 t𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬: Children with disabilities (ages 17 & under) – 9:45 a.m.; ages 3-5 – 10 a.m.; ages 6-8 – 10:15 a.m.; ages 9-12 – 10:30 a.m.; ages 3 and under – 10:45 a.m.; and ages 13-17 – 11 a.m.

 

Blacksburg Farmers Market

At Market Square Park, 100 Draper Rd SW, Blacksburg; 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Blacksburg Farmers Market is a local, family-friendly gathering place in downtown Blacksburg featuring farmers of locally grown produce and meats, alongside artisans of baked goods and handmade crafts. Tri-community churches celebrate sunrise

Easter Sunrise Service will be celebrated at Zion Hill Baptist Church, 790 West Rock Rd., Radford at 6:30 a.m. This service is sponsored by the Tri-Community Revival Committee which is made up of Zion Hill Baptist (Pastor Eric Ramey), First Baptist on the Rock (Pastor David Gittings, Jr.) and First Missionary Baptist (Pastor Montie Brown). Music will be furnished by the joint choirs from all three churches. The public is invited.

Commonwealth Senior Living support group

Are you looking for a supportive, empathetic community? Group facilitator Alan Forrest, Ed.D., LPC, LMFT Counselor will lead a community support group for family members and caregivers of an aging loved one, or a person living with dementia at the Radford Public Library, 4 p.m. This is for supporting family rather than for the individual with dementia. Volunteer Montgomery Community Service Scholarship deadline

Volunteer Montgomery will be awarding two $1,000 scholarships to a high school senior in Montgomery County (public, private, or homeschooled) that is engaged in volunteer activities in our community. MRSWA Household Hazardous Waste Day

Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority’s Household Hazardous Waste event, 555 Authority Dr., Christiansburg, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. By appointment only. Call 540-381-2820 to schedule an appointment. Open to all residents of Montgomery County. No commercial waste or commercial vehicles will be permitted. Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is any unwanted household product labeled as flammable, toxic, corrosive, or reactive. Include aerosols, anti-freeze, fertilizers, motor oil, paint supplies, photo chemicals, poisons, solvents and more. No electronics, batteries or paper shredding. Mount Tabor Ruritan Biscuit Breakfast

Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will be serving up hot biscuits topped with delicious sausage gravy, or with the latest batch of our “world-famous” apple butter.  We will also have scrambled eggs, orange juice and coffee. Breakfast will be served in the Fellowship Hall of Slusser’s Chapel, 1543 Mount Tabor Rd, Blacksburg, 8 – 10 a.m. This is below the sanctuary, on the lower church parking lot level. This is a fundraiser for our club to help us as we serve our community, and donations will be accepted for breakfast. Blacksburg Vintage Market

Shop at the Blacksburg Vintage Market on the second and fourth Sundays of every month, April – November, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., for the best selection of vintage vinyl, clothing, jewelry, books, housewares, oddities and who knows what else. Located in downtown Blacksburg at the corner of Roanoke Street and Draper Avenue, in Market Square Park, under the Farmer’s market structure. Plenty of parking is available nearby.

 

Monday, April 13:

 

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting

Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

 

Radford City Council meeting

The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

 

Stories and Poetry reading

The Warm Hearth Village Writers Group presents a Public Reading of Stories & Poetry, 1- 3 p.m. at The Village Center, 2387 Warm Hearth Dr., Blacksburg. Come experience this long-standing tradition and enjoy an afternoon of creativity, connection, and storytelling. All are welcome – come listen, reflect, and be inspired. Founded over 30 years ago by Virginia Tech Poet Laureate Nikki Giovanni, the group shares stories, poetry, and personal reflections. Our writers bring decades of experience to life—through memories of travel, history, and meaningful moments. Each reading is followed by engaging and often delightful conversation.

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

 

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

At 7 p.m. at Town Hall,100 E. Main St., Christiansburg. This is a regular meeting of town council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting

The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7 p.m. at the NRV Superbowl, 375 Arbor Dr. NE, Christiansburg. Introducing the New River Ordnance Plant 

Dennis Kitts returns to Warm Hearth Village at 2 p.m. for Part Two of the RAAP story, focusing on the New River Ordnance Plant—Dublin’s Bagging Plant. Discover its impact on our region and its connection to the years leading into the Korean Conflict. A Q&A session will follow. Kitts is an historian and author is a retired Manager of Training and Development at the Radford Arsenal with nearly 30 years of service. As the official historian and author of the 75th Anniversary history of the Radford Ordnance Works, he is known for his engaging storytelling that brings to life the people, challenges, and triumphs that shaped this chapter of Virginia’s past. Christiansburg spring clean-up

Place your cleanup items outside at any time between April 13-24, and crews will be by in the next few weeks to pick them up. To make the collection easier on our crews, please place cleanup items within 10 feet of the street pavement and separate them from your regular trash. Please also separate materials by type (bagged leaves, brush, furniture, etc.) and do not block drainage ditches, gutters, sidewalks, water meters, or sewer cleanouts. Questions about what we’ll pick up?
