The local chapter of 100+ Women Who Care of the New River Valley (100+ WWC NRV) has donated over $13,000 to the member selected organization, Blacksburg Refugee Partnership.
The Blacksburg Refugee Partnership is an organization run by community volunteers who connect displaced families to the resources and ongoing support they need for a successful life in the U. S. The Blacksburg Refugee Partnership has helped 90 individuals from five countries settle into homes and find employment. In addition, they help these individuals and families connect to resources such as learning English, enrolling in school, navigating healthcare, and obtaining drivers licenses, etc.
On Wednesday, Aug. 27, the Blacksburg Refugee Partnership was featured at a special event of Buzz Live at the Lyric Theater where they were presented with their check from the 100+ WWC NRV.
The local chapter of 100+ WWC NRV meets quarterly on the third Tuesday of January, April, July and October. 100+ WWC NRV’s next meeting will be Oct. 21 at 6:15 pm at Warm Hearth. Committed members donate $100 each quarter and each meeting lasts one hour.
At each 100+ WWC NRV quarterly meeting, three local not-for-profits are drawn from a bucket. Each organization must have a 100+ WWC NRV sponsor willing to present on its behalf. After the three presentations, the membership votes on which organization to support at that meeting.
100+ WWC NRV’s membership area includes the counties of Montgomery, Giles, Pulaski and Floyd and the City of Radford. All interested women are invited to join the 100+ WWC NRV to support local not-for-profits that make the New River Valley a better place to live.
